In addition we offer the option for self-payment, using card or cash. There may be additional insurance options in the future. Please click here for further information on insurance and self-pay

How often do we meet and for how long?

The frequency of therapy is agreed upon by you and the therapist based on your needs. I typically see individuals weekly to start out and then adjust the frequency as needed. Sessions are approximately 50 minutes in length. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place

I'd like to start - what is the process?

To begin simply contact me through email or phone call, you can access my contact info here. From there we can see if I might be a good fit for your needs, and if so we can set up an intake appointment. You will need to fill out all necessary intake paperwork prior to the session, this will help us get started and ensure that you have read and understand the policies and process. You will need to provide insurance information at the time of the intake appointment, or if you are self-pay you will need to provide payment method.

I want to get the most out of therapy - what can I do to help the process?

Your active participation and dedication is crucial to your success. After all, we only see each other for a session a week. It’s the work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you see your personal growth and development.

  • Consistency is key to reaching your goals. Additionally, it is vital to give yourself at least one hour a week or every other week where you can put yourself first to focus on YOU.

  • Develop a stronger rapport with your therapist. It is easier and more likely that you will become more comfortable with your therapist and more apt to opening up in the therapy session if you are meeting with them regularly

  • A set, weekly time helps makes therapy an expected part of your routine. Having infrequent or inconsistent appointments with your therapist can lead to forgetting sessions or stunting your growth and development in therapy.

  • Avoid cancellation fees. We do have a cancellation fee. Be mindful that if you cannot make it to see us, let us know 24 hours in advance.

  • Going to therapy even when you feel “good” can actually be quite effective. When we are at our best, we have more resources to deal with long standing patterns or deep personal issues.

Are counseling sessions confidential?

Basically, whatever you say in therapy, stays in therapy. However, there are times when a therapist is legally obligated to break confidentiality:

  • Harm to self or others. If a therapist believes that you are in imminent danger of hurting yourself or someone else, a family member, police or ambulance will be called to ensure safety.

  • A child, adolescent or adult in care is in danger. In these cases Family and Children’s Services or the police will be called.

  • Your files are subpoenaed by the court.

  • A client experienced a health emergency during a session. In this case, medical staff would be provided only with necessary information. No information about why a client is in therapy will be shared.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Prior to your first appointment, you will fill out paperwork that helps your therapist gain an understanding of your current situation and background. First, your therapist will review some of this paperwork as well as important policies such as confidentiality with you. Then, you and your therapist will discuss what brings you into therapy, your background, and your personal history. The first appointment may feel like you don’t know where to start or what to say but your therapist will guide you through the process and help you feel at ease. The purpose of the first appointment is to understand your history, assess your current situation, and create a plan and goals for treatment.

What is the cancellation policy?

The cancellation policy is that you provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Without at least 24 hours notice you will be charged for the appointment.

What kinds of questions should I ask myself?

  • What do I hope to gain from therapy? Will this therapist help me do that?

  • Am I comfortable with this therapist? Would I want to come back?

  • Remember: The most important factor in securing effective therapy is a good relationship between you and your therapist.

  • Do I feel assured that the therapist is qualified to help me with the issues or concerns that have motivated me to seek therapy at this time?

  • Am I willing to do the work necessary to participate in therapy?

How do I know what type of therapy is right for me?

Any other questions about therapy?

If you have any other questions about therapy, please contact us today to see how we can answer your questions.

Your first session will be a one-hour intake assessment. Your therapist will ask you about your reasons for seeking help. To better understand you as a person they will ask you about your current life circumstances and some details about your past history. You only have to talk about whatever you are comfortable disclosing.  During this session, you will be able to determine if you feel comfortable talking to the therapist; and the therapist will be able to determine where to focus and what modality to use. Your therapist will provide you with their clinical opinion and propose a treatment plan.

If it appears your needs may be better suited by another therapist, I will provide assistance with a referral towards the right support for you.
